That sounds suspiciously like he's blocked your number.
Why not ask the phone company about it as if you were interested in the service for yourself? Say if you wanted to block someone's calls, what message would they hear? You want to make sure it's not offensive.

you can call someone with caller id-- and c if ur name/ and or # pops up, if not-- then u need to do *82, which will upblock ur #. Or if ur kids father has a block on his ph-- due to long distance, or u can simply call 1-800-collect, or u can call the operator and c. If u hav rites, and u hav an atty, tell him the situation. If ur kids father phone is off-- u willl hear a recording. U can either try calling from a pay ph, relative home, if u really want to talk with ur kids there are ways about doin that.

You can call the operator and have her run a tracer.
He shouldnt be stopping you from calling your kids. You can only block incoming numbers individually. On cellphones.. You can do that with Cingular in some areas but you will get nothing from anyone and it will say a msg like you got. Call your operator.

Just call from a different number, if the message says the same thing, then it's disconnected, if the call goes through then you know that he blocked your #.

usually when you call a number thats been disconnected... it tells you that it was disconnected. Call from someone else's phone or use a calling card and see if the call goes through. If so, maybe your # is blocked??
