Its all about proper grip on ball and follow through with your entire body into it...Your thumb & first finger should be closest to the end of ball while the others are wrapped snug at the laces of ball....you need to pivot and trow ball upwards and out not push!!! Practice ..practice ..practice...you will be fine...stay loose and have fun!!

#1 Put your fingertips on the seam
#2 hand towards the end of the ball where you have a comfortable grip on it
#3 try not to throw too hard at first, you want to work on your form
#4 throw it easily and once you have a smooth release work on increasing your throwing distance

Grip it on the seam and put backspin on the ball by by letting the ball roll off your throwing hand; the spin gives the ball velocity so it will travel faster and farther

Your hands are simply too small, is my guess. I'm a guy and my hands are too small to get a really good grip on a football to throw it a good distance like I can a baseball.
--if you are using a NFL or College size football.
If you are using a smaller football, see advise above and below.

try gripping it a little further back toward the rear end and spread your fingers out on the threads. as you bring your hand forward snap your wrist to give a tighter spiral and more velocity

Put you fingers on the laces, and follow through across your body to give it spin.
