I'm a junior in highschool and I dont know what I wanna do, but children's book illustration looks like a really cool possibility because I love art. anyone know anything about this career? How do you get into it? How do you prepare for it? How do you get good at it?

Although your library has plenty of books on the subject, you'll have to keep a portfolio of your work so your talent can be judged by publishing companies. However, if you decide to write and illustrate your own books and publish them yourself and market them as well, there's really nothing holding you back.

Become a commercial artist. Do the book illustration as a side. Most authors are poor and don`t like to pay. They all think they have a best seller but 99% are not. Become established with a publishing house that will use artists for authors they plan to publish.
Practice, practice, practice. Let your inner child go because that is where your style, that God gave you, is located. Develop it, refine it and you will be recognizable by your style.

Maybe find a friend first that loves writing. Maybe you two can partner up and be like a duo. She writes the children's stories and you draw the pictures.
