Of course the 1st Exorcist; I don't really consider this movie "horror", but more psychological "terror": "The Devil's Rejects." That flipped me out! I didn't know that it was a sequel to "House of 1000 Corpses" when I first saw it; Utterly terrifying!

OK here is a list....
First film that you must see is The Wicker Man (NOT the recent pap from hollywood though, the original UK version with Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward, Directed by Robin Hardy).
Then you could try these, please look at the original Japanese versions and NOT the pappy US remakes; Ringu and The Grudge,.
Now for some others..
Saw and Saw 2
Alien
Open Water
Hostel
Creep
Nosferatu (Original is bestbut the 1979 Herzog/Kinski collaboration is fine)
The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920)
Audition
You could also check out Hammer House of Horror, they are a little campy, but good.
When you have done with them you need The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Tears of Kali. It's a German horror movie, but it's a damn good one. It's done by a Den Simons book. You should really check it out!
