Jesi, I'm with you on that one.
I am independant and vote accordingly. It's the two headed monster party, I hate sounding partisan, I'm not.
But the neoconservatives really do accuse anyone who is not of the GOP as being "liberal" even those who are Republican but question the president are accused, no one can dissent.
Oh, and the reason we take that crap is because we are women. Men and women "liberal" or "conservative" are equally threatened by opinionated young women.
It's sexism, I'm convinced

Well, this has an easy answer that I'm not sure how qualified I am to give. I'm conservative on some issues, but I certainly don't consider myself a Neo-con, and other conservatives are sometimes dubious about how "right" I actually am. That said, I am probably somewhere right of center, even if hardcore conservatives would likely deny me as one of their number.
I say all that because my simple answer is this: I'm not. I don't feel particularly threatened by the intellect of the people on the left who disagree with me (nor, for that matter, by those on the right that who do). And, though you rather set yourself up for such a slur, that isn't because I'm saying they haven't got any.
Nor am I intimidated by you, while I'm on the subject. I fear neither intelligent nor opinionated young women. Actually, if you're interested, I'd like to chat with you outside of yahoo-answers. I'm always looking for somebody I can have interesting discussions with, and I've enjoyed trying to field some of your questions. E-mail if you're interested (drwho_66@yahoo.com).
But, back on topic and me asside, how do you judge if those on the right feared the intellect of those opposing them, or simply disliked opposing views? From what I've seen, the adherents on either side don't acknowledge the intelligence of those who disagree with them, so if they fear them—they would tell you they were fearing fools. If they honestly believe that, then is either side fearing intellect or just disagreement? That isn't to say they don't, I'm just asking for some clarification.

Actually Jane, its not just conservatives who are intimated by intelligent and reasoning. I've been the victim of outraged liberals who can't stand reason, logic or facts being used to question their rather shaky statements.
Both major parties are beholden to special interests and corporate sponsors. Neither represents their constituents; it is no longer a government by or of the people.

Because the success of the Republican Party lies in tricking working people into voting against their economic best interest
and if the people begin to wise up then the Republicans are in trouble.

We're not. I often talk with very articulate liberals.
The problem is with many people who "liberals" is that they often regurgitate talking points, freight-training mantras like so many box cars. When I ask them about any point they've made, start critically examining what they're saying, asking them about EVIDENCE and LOGIC, they usually talk about feelings, change the subject, and go back to DU.
BTW, I used to work for a VERY liberal organization. That's what caused me to become a confirmed conservative.

maximum folk sense that their personal political beliefs are logical and sensible. maximum folk sense that wise human beings viewing an same info and prerequisites that they see might want to come to an same logical conclusions. even as human beings come to diverse conclusions, it really is therefor organic to anticipate the the different individual is incorrect because they are mentally defective or thoroughly uninformed. Democrats and liberals make an same assumptions about conservative and republicans.

I bet Bush wouldn't spend his money like he does ours, and without our conscent. He is like someone gone wild with a credit card, and this country was in the black when he took office.
