providing you change the engine oil regularly, keep the oil level topped up, use fully synthetic oil (becasue its better as developed by scientists) then 100miles is not really high and the engine will last at least twice this ammount, however the remainder of the car will wear quicker so check for full dealer service history so you know the car is looked after, check the bodyt work for corrosion...but to answer the question specifically, if the car has been serviced in accordance with the manufacturer recomended schedule then it is not a worry and will do at least twice this mileage!!! You could check for things like collant loss, head gasket condition as if the engine has overheated in its life then serious damage may have been done...i think that will do as my answer for now, im drunk, had a couple of lines and im really rambling on right now!!!!!! cheers and hope this helps, citroen deisel engine like 1.9 or 1.9td are pretty good if looked after!!!!

Not for the engine, no, providing the service history shows that it has been regularly maintained. I drove a diesel Ford Transit van that managed 440,000 miles on its original 2.5l diesel engine: and a replacement reconditioned motor only cost £600. A well-maintained diesel motor will usually last much longer than the petrol equivalent. Do check the state of the turbo, if it's a turbo diesel motor: if this is worn it could cost you.
Perhaps more to the point is the state of rest of the vehicle. How is the bodywork? Any signs of corrosion? The shocks and suspension bushes, if original, are likely to be rather tired by now, so check this. Do the electrical extras all work? Check the windows, lighting, etc. Is the interior worn out? You've got to be comfortable after all - and a rough interior often indicates how the vehicle has been treated.

I take it that you are going to buy a diesel car, and worried about the mileage.
right then----- first thing is to check the service record, make sure it has been done regularly.
second, is the vehicles age, if the car is 2-3 years old, the chances are it has been a reps car or a taxi. In that case look for wear and tear and check the mileage against the service records.
thirdly, get an inspection done by the AA or RAC or somebody like that, they will be able to get the full history of the vehicle. This might cost a little, but it is well worth the piece of mind.
But if all is well with the above, then 100,000 miles is fine.

No. Because the diesel engine uses less rpm to achieve maximum power, they will last far longer than other engines. A properly maintained diesel engine can do up to, and exceed one million miles. Lorry's and buses are good examples. In a car however, it's usually the car that gives up before the engine.

Not really,
Some people believe that a diesel engine isn't really "broken in" till it reaches 100,000 from what I have heard.
They should really be able to go much more than that.

No
most european diesels are barely run in Perkins are still not run in, however orientals are a bit suspect and the modern high revving high output diesels in up market saloons must be an unknown quantity at high miles.

100,000 miles is almost half way to the moon!
It won't run worth a damn up there !!!!!
