Check filter if it is clean make sure nothing blocking return air. If ice start to form on outside and works in toward the coil then it is an air flow problem. Other than that better call a repairman. Cheaper in the long run.

there are a few things that will cause an a/c unit to freeze up the number one cause is, the unit is low on freon ,you will have to have the charge checked , it could also be that the evaporator motor (inside the furnace) is not running, it could be a dirty filter ,also the a- coil could be dirty. turn off the unit for at least 8 hours so the a- coil can thaw out , turn it back on and see if you have good air flow from the vents, if so that eliminates the filter and a- coil and evaporator motor ,have the charge checked.
