The Americans are the ones who used to admire the Brits until they read your question. LOL I suppose HM made you the Ambassador to somewhere -- what a mistake.

Hello, Camilla, that's refreshing. The first trick would be to switch to non-American spelling; "harbour" instead of harbor, etc. And then... well, I don't mean to offend anyone, but if you write in full sentences and take good care of your punctuation and spelling (not that there's anything wrong with yours, but just in general), and use a bit more courtesy and blurb than you'd normally feel inclined to do, you will not be thought of as American in here, I would imagine. Another thing is topics - I don't know why, but there is this exasperating flood of religiously inspired hogwash going on, and every time someone writes something about patriotism or freedom, it's just a dead giveaway. I tend to go into the Aussie and Brit section only most of the time, because it's beginning to get old on me (ha! there, I did it, used an American idiom - but I'm not :-) goes the other way, too, you see ;-)

It's very difficult to tell which questions aren't from Americans, unless they happen to contain words that are spelled differently from the way Americans spell them. You've used the word "criticised" above.
...and, of course, any question that reads, "Do you think King George III sucks?" must be from an American.

i'm with you on this, our friends across the pond end to ask *really* silly questions like "I met James and I don't know how to tell him that I actually really like him but he is so cute" hmmm.
I find it easier to spot a US counterpart from an answer. For example, recently someone asked "what is the most northern capital city in the World"? And out came a stream of answers of "Juneau, Alaska" :|
For the first time I got irate and mentioned that they need to be a litte more open-minded when posting on Yahoo UK AND IRELAND and consider the rest of the World.
@smh, with all due respect:
In WW I, it was due to Germany bombing American cruise liner than led to the US joining the war effort, not for the sake of savin other countries.
"Germany had conquered France and most of Western Europe, but it had failed to subdue the United Kingdom."
"Japan attacks Pearl Harbor, U.S. enters WW II"
"The Luftwaffe tried and failed to defeat the Royal Air Force in the Battle of Britain (1940)"

Sometimes u can pick out the words that r different, and sometimes the spelling. I read a lot of Garfield books when I was young so can pick up most!

I don't think anyone can relate to Americans, even fellow Americans can't relate to Americans, such is their screwed-up multiculturalism, so what chance have the rest of us?
I also think that there should be separate "Answers" forums for UK users. Naturally us Brits would have a more sophisticated site than the septics..(septic tanks = yanks) and would be able to identify with the majority of questions posted.
Final thought, who would love to see a celebrity death match on MTV between Bush and Blair? Our Tony would knock seven bells of sh*t outta George...Bring it on....
P.S Hey Camilla, I think you should give "Bella" a good kickin' too!

For a start, get yourself off the American created website (yahoo), you have no right using it if you have a problem with Americans and are asking such a ridicuous question. You obviously are one of those posh London girls who only associate with your own species. You are a very rude person and will end up offending quite a few people asking that question here...considering the fact that Americans from the states answer these questions and it's about 6 hours behind over there......best of luck.

Yes you can.
They always involve either God or the military in some way or another. Or US Marines...they think that they are gods (assh*les).
Another way of telling could be the obvious arrogant tone of their postings.
