It's propaganda. Republicans are in the (albeit marginal) minority, so they rely on grassroots campaigns and riling up the masses to get their message out there. This is most easily achieved by creating conflict where there is none, turning every issue into and "us against them" issue, and generally just making noise.
What they're trying to convince you, and they do have a point, is that most bottom rung journalists are liberal because they are educated and strongly believe in the freedoms of the Constitution, the Journalist's Creed, and that their main job is to serve the citizens and to protect them from being stepped on by the government. What they don't tell you is that the vast majority of news media organizations out there are owned by Republicans or otherwise very conservative big businessmen like Rupert Murdock. That means that the actual agenda setting and editing is done by conservatives, who are not going to allow a liberal slant in their product because it doesn't benefit them. In most reputable news outlets, these two balance each other out (esp. since being objective is supposed to be their number one goal), but in reality, nationwide and even world wide (Thank you Rupert!), the media you are exposed to is far more likely to have conservative tendencies than liberal ones. And advertisers hold the purse strings of the news media in America, threatening to pull their ad revenue if the news media says something they don't like -- and just where do you think they stand on the political spectrum? The conservatives have to distract you with accusations that the liberals are everywhere tainting the media, hoping that you won't notice the opposite is true.
By the way, any scholar of American Journalism who is being truthful and objective will tell you that Fox news being "fair and balanced" is the biggest joke out there. If they aren't spewing conservative propaganda, then they must be experiencing technical difficulties that day. (Thanks to you, again, Rupert.)

It is part of the whole talk radio mentality. If you repeat something long enough and loud enough, the masses will believe it.
The reality is that when polled most reporters are more liberal than the general population, however, the owners of the media are much more conservative than the general population. It is the owners that make the decisions on how liberal or conservative the news reporting is. Why do you think that the news media as a whole has decided that the American people shouldn't see the caskets returning from Iraq?
BTW, Hannity is an abomination to anyone with an IQ over 70. Explains why Bush loves him.

well, whether something is "liberal" or "conservative" all depends on where you draw the line
someone who has a philosophy way to the left would call nearly everything conservative, and at the far right, everything else is liberal
virtually every study has shown that major media writers in the U.S. are, on average, more liberal than the average person in the U.S.
a very conservative newsletter gives a pretty good analytical tally
http://www.hillsdale.edu/imprimis/2006/08/
again, these terms are relative, but if we use the voting pattern in recent elections we see that the nation has, as in the last presidential election, been pretty evenly split along democrat/republican and liberal/conservative choices
the article above points out that people writing, editing, producing media have a far higher percentage of people who voted democrat in the last presidential election than the american average
on average the media is left of american center, but I don't see that that matters much so long as the whole range of philosophy is available except when the schools get involved (public schools are paid for by tax money and when they teach a biased philosophy to children that is a problem)

When someone is on the extreme right of the spectrum everything looks biased to the left. Most media is actually pretty objective. The big networks are owned and controlled by big corporations and you know which side they are on. The most objective is Public Broadcasting. You have extremes on both sides Fox, Rush, and Hannity on the right Franken, Moore and Stewart on the left.

Pfft, indeed.
The media seem very shy to me about voicing any kind of opposition to the current administration, probably because of the Dan Rather snafu.
My personal opinion is that the admin has all the major media outlets' figurative nuts in some kind of vise, and they're no longer allowed to put out the whole truth.
For instance, why am I only now (and never from the U.S. tv news) finding out about the explicit collusion of Bush & Blair in this whole Iraq debacle? If any mention was made of the memos over here, it was quickly buried by stories of a mommy kitty saving her litter from a fire or some such.
Point being, I feel ya man.

Maybe, because it is. CNN portrayed the conspiracy theories about the World Trade Center's being bombed. They said that it wasn't Arabs, or any other kind of terrorists. They support the terrorists! They supported John Kerry when he was running for pres. John Kerry was a fake. He was a coward in the war, and a wimp now. They show the war on terror on TV, and say that Iraqi's want us out of there, when there's so many stories about how grateful they are that we went in there. CNN is liberal because it supports everything liberal. All of the Anchormen are liberal. Fox is biased, towards the right. They stand up for American values. For what's right! CNN is yellow and they ought to be hanged like the traitors that they are.

They need someone to blame when the American people won't buy into their policies. It all started because 2 liberal reporters busted the corruption in their conservative hero Richard Nixon's administration in the early 70's. Since then when they don't get their way they blame the liberal media. What's interesting about the Fox News Network. It claims to be "America's Network" but yet it's owned and operated by News Corp. an Australian company.

They were probably right.
Maybe someone could look in a dictionary sometime and they would find out that a Liberal is a person in favour of liberty=freedom
When some people use that as an insult, shouldn't that give you a clue to THEIR views?

Simply because they cannot stand to read or hear Thar truth. There is almost no good news and they want to put their spin where they can.No respectable newspaper can outright lie and stay in business very long. I do not see why that is so hard to understand.

Hahaha, I wonder this myself! Yes, there are some liberal media venues, but there are also some conservative ones (Fox, anyone?).
Everyone just seems so angry about everything nowadays...
