Considering the modern technology that makes camping more convenient...high altitude fuels, insulating and waterproof fabrics, water purification kits, etc.
It's also a socially scientific study of how people socialize and thrive in settings that provide less than thier customary comforts.
P.s. scientifical IS a word, it is an older form of the word scientific according to Webster's dictionary.

Yea, scientifical is not a word. Camping is recreational. I suppose if you studied the natural world around you while camping that would be scientific. It also takes calculating as to how to reach your destination and set up your camp. Other than that you just sit back and enjoy and not worry about science or anything else for that matter.

Edit: An "older version of the word" doesn't count. e.e That's like people used to say "sarcastical" instead of sarcastic. I think they just didn't know the real word.
