I'm a big fan of one of the originals ... Maybelline's great lash, in the pink and green tube. Water-proof mascara doesn't damage eyelashes, unless you sleep with it on. Any water-proof make-up remover should do the trick. I've also found that a non scented lotion or Vaseline works well too, and is much more inexpensive!

If you have to get over the counter, the best one out there is Almay. It is gentle and it works nice. I use Estee Lauder. yes it it pricey but I have no eye lashes and this one gives me long thick lashes!
Water proof mascara does not damage the eyelashes, you can remove it with makeup remover or if you don't have any, you can use a cotton ball and use baby oil and water mixture, which is what I use. It will do the same. make sure not to get oil in your eyes.

you should be willing to spend if you want good quality, my personal fav. Maybelline Lash Stylist cause the brush really seperates n extends the lashes clump free. Water proof masc. is harder to remove so make sure you buy a special eye makeup remover 4 that type of mascara (personaly don't like it). For the damage concern sometimes ur lashes will fall off so be sure to buy a lashe protective coat and put it on, it's like doing a treatment for you lashes, u apply it like mascara. For removing the mascara use a cotton ball with your eye m-up remover !!!!
hope it helps

MaxFactor Lashfinity is a good all-purpose mascara that you can buy at Walmart. The way you remove waterproof mascara is with an unscented, fragrance-free lotion.... I don't know if it damages your eyelashes, but putting castor oil on clean lashes before sleeping should regenerate them, if harm does occur! Maybelline GreatLash is greatly endorsed by many makeup artists. Lancome Hypnose is supposed to be really good, so you could try to find the L'Oreal version of it.

I know you want an inexpensive mascara but THE NUMBER 1 MASCARA IN THE WORLD IS LANCOME'S! Try their flextencils. I swear by their mascara! It really is the best! And water-proof mascara doesn't damage eyelashes. They specifically make mascara remover.

I like water proof mascara and have been using it for years now. I take it off with eye make up remover. I just got introduced to the Mary Kay products and am so far satisfied with them. You might want to go on line and find a consultant near you. I was fortunate enough that one of my friends sells MK and said she would come to my house and assist me with a makeover it was fun plus she left me with some samples so that I could try it on my own the next day. I have never heard of MK before that but it was cool. I was like you I go to the mall and just buy what ever was on the counter.

If you wear contacts you definitely need to get waterproof. I bought non-waterproof once and my eyes were itching like crazy.
My favorite mascara is waterproof Maybelline Sky High Curves. It keeps my eyelashes curled all day.
Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover works very well.

Maybelline Great Lash, available at any drugstore, target, walmart, etc. This is supposed to be the best according to readers of Allure magazine. Plus it's cheap! Almay has eye makeup remover pads that work great.
