Public castration would be one way to curb the problem. They are almost always repeat offenders and never stop.

I have 3 children, who are now 28,18, and 13 yrs old. When they were all a lot younger a man who I thought was my best friend sexually abused all of my children. He only ended up getting 10 yrs. in prison, and has to register as a know sex offender the rest of his life. It has been proven that most molsters will molest again and I think they should have stricter laws against people who would take advantage of any child. Going through court and counseling and this whole ordeal has changed my family for ever. My oldest boy is now a recovering meth addict because of what he went through. My 18 year old daughter is a pot smoker and still has issues because of this. My youngest has emotional problems and issues that I do not know if she will ever be able to work through this. I felt that I had let my children down moms are suppose to kiss the boo boo and make it bettter and there was nothing I could do that would make this better. I think anyone who hurts a child should be locked up and never let back out into society again where they can never ever hurt another child.

No I don't.
That idea (the above answers) is from a time when a woman committed adultery got branded with an A, a thief had his hand cut off and anyone who spoke against the king got beheaded. It was the Law.
Even so, the laws are pretty dicey. If the age of consent is say 16, (ages vary across the States), then a boyfriend who is 17 can get arrested.
Perhaps the trauma to the child will be worse with all the public scrutiny.
We all agree it's a horrible thing. I don't think we've thought about it beyond our personal moral and personal ethical outrage.
Lifetime sentence in a prison is a ticket to death. Define child! Up until 100 years ago, for the seven thousand years prior it was common, commonplace for a 13 year old to wed.
While I agree our laws should reflect todays society, I think our society is shifted so rapidly we can't get a handle on things -- and tend to legislate by our ethics, which are different for each person.
Personally, I vote for castration. But, if we are talking law -- I think the whole thing is a murky mess.

Yes, the Innocent child should not be put through a sexual abuse or neglect. This child that we women bring to this world, did not ask to come to this horrible world. This children are our future and need to treat them with respect. The sex offender should be punished and be locked up for the rest of his/her life. I believe that the law is doing its job to a certain point, because in some cases the child will not speak and/or say anything to no one for shame or embarrassment. I have been to workshops about child abuse and neglect and the child will forget some of the things that happened and in the order and in some cases, the say that the child is not saying the truth.

Yes! I was an abused child, My own cousin abused me , and family members ignored it for many years, Then when I was 16 I was raped By my brother in laws step brother, Again I was called a liar! People have a hard time believeing this can happen to their children, because it is so hush hush in the media, We don't feel it's right to take away the rights of these full grown men who should know better! Putting harsher sentences on these men will not deter them from attacking children, But it will open the eyes of the public and hopefully let them see how amazing common it is in everyday life, They ay protect their children more, and hopefully keep them out oif these situations!, I can tell you that being sexually abused makes your entire life harder, trusting people is nearly impossible, and You have to teach yourself that when you get older sex is ok, otherwise it feels dirty to you. Also the offender Does notfeel remorse in most cases, Niether of mine ever even said sorry, when I was faced with them again. They do not feel ashamed, Or bad for what they did. I say kill them all and let God sort them out!

Yes ! Too many times the judicial system looks at the crime and punishes for the actions and not what sort of lasting effect the crime caused. Child abuse or any abuse law should come down like a sledgehammer not a slap on the wrist.

I think that they should be *far* more severe, considering that their actions have repercussions for their victims entire lives. The psychological harm that they inflict warrants much harsher punishments than they typically get. I think they focus on the rehabilitation of the offenders too much and not enough on the punishment they truly deserve. Incidentally, locking them up isn't just about punishing the offender, or getting justice for their victims, it is also for the protection of society! Their incarceration insures us that they aren't roaming the streets free to select new prey. I believe that sexual predators that target children deserve the death penalty as a mandatory sentence.

yes....those people deserve to be in jail for the rest of their lives. My reason for such a harsh punishment:
The children who are abused are scarred for the rest of their lives. Therapy and ones family can only help so much. An abused persons life is forever altered and so should be the lives of the abusers. Spending the rest of your life in jail is a small price to pay for killing the innocence of a child.
Death is a little too severe. They should be kept away from society so that further child abuse to more children can be avoided.

Yes! Most of them are really old and the penalties are not severe enough. Stuff like child annoyance, and lewd and lascivious behavior with a child, contributing to the deliquency of a child. How about simply an assault, sexual battery or rape!!! Why should rape of an adult have a stricter penalty.

Yes..... more severe.... any adult that harms a child that way is not fit to live in any society.... they should be put away without ever being let out....as they will never change and start looking for another child...in the old days these people would have been put to death...

They should be put on an island with each other, and a bunch of really hungry wild animals.
Death is too easy for them--they need to suffer daily torment like their victims do!
If anyone had done that to MY kids, I would probably be out of prison by now, but GUARANTEED that dead bastard wouldn't have hurt any others while I was there!
