I have a 10 yo. and no, they don't need a cell phone for the simple fact that they have no one to call. Everywhere they go i take them so that rules out calling me or their father. It's just a crazy idea the phone companies came up with.

Heavens No. That is not a good Idea. I know when I was ten, 1 am 13 now, I was into all sorts of things on ym Moms phone, and when she was not watching I ran up her bill to where it was over 100 dollars. DONT GET A TEN YEAR OLD A CELL PHONE!!!

My nephew just turned 11 and I would say the cell phone for him is a good thing. My sister's ex, (my nephew's dad) calls him on that phone and my sister doesn't have a home phone. I don't know why but oh well she doesn't and he comes home and has to stay by himself everyday for 30 minutes after getting off the bus. He also has a phone to be reached while playing at a friends house, etc. this may not be for every child that age, but there are exceptions

I really dont think so.... i didn't get my cell until my junior year and i had to work for it.... now i see little girls going into middle school and they already have things like a razor and sidekick.. i think its ridiclous. The only time a cell is needed is iff they are gonna be away from home for a longer than a day.. such as a school trip or something (the cell will just be there for emergencies and to keep in touch with parents. thats just my opinion

That's insane. Of course a ten year-old does not need a cell phone.

They have these phones that let you program only a couple numbers into like a home, work, and school numbers so that the kid can make emergency call if needed. Also the have GPS so you can keep track if anything bad ever happened. So yes, I would prefer my 10 or even 5 year old have one.

It all depends if he's responsibe enough to handle a cell phone. Some kids at the age are irresponsible. I got my daughter a cell phone at 11 and some ppl thought that was to young.

It depends. I think 10 is a little young, my kids are teen-agers though and I love that they have cell phones as I can reach them anytime I need to. When you work and they are busy with things, it comes in handy. I think if the child has a lot of activities and is not always with their parents, it comes in handy.

Maybe a Firefly programmable (by the parent) phone, but even that on a per need basis ex: after school activities, going out of town w/ out parent for some reason, etc...
