Following the pattern is asking you to add chains at the end of every two rows, is this typical of this pattern?

I know when the chains added at the end are 2-5 indicating the first stictch of the next row. This is asking for change 25 to 73 stitches--and to work 1-2 rows of the pattern. The pattern is a Vogue crocheted coat from the 2006 spring/summer book. Has anyone made this coat? It just seems as if some steps are missing.

Worked by rows means that when you get to the end of a row, you turn the work around so the yarn's at the right and you stitch to the left to the end and turn again. Yes, when it says to add chains, (like ch3) that means the chain will be the first stitch (like a dc) when you've turned the work around and you're ready to do another row. This is typical of lots and lots of patterns where you crochet back and forth across the WIDTH of the afghan, blanket, or whatever and you will make rows back and forth till you get the LENGTH of the piece done. A chevron stitch is going to make a zig zag look to the work.

fairly of crocheting from the accurate to the bottom, it really is north to south, side to side is from east to west. you nonetheless turn your rows yet they are vertical not horizontal.
