Genuine replies only please. I am home alone 2 nite, and freaked out. I have had "things" happen in this house, since we bought it 9 yrs ago, bumps, just the other night a candlestick launched across the room on its own. Black darting shadows, seen by 3 different people on different nights, doors slamming, telly switching off on its own, bulbs exploding, apparitions, seen even by children, objects moving without a human touch, i could write a book. I am scared here, i need a genuine, no nonsense advice, what am i up against here?? Please help, i am alone tonight, and have heard bumping and dragging noises already from upstairs, it is a large old house i live in, what could this be, please no piss taking, i am worried here, really, scared!!!

Don't be scared first of all. If you are a religious person--use it to calm yourself down. If it's a ghost or a spirit...there's nothing you can do to make it go away...so just try to be a peace with it.

Try to put some music on loudly....drown out the noise...or maybe go for a walk or over to a friends house.

You'll be fine...just don't freak out. Freaking out will only make things worse.

I can understand how scared you are feeling. These things are happening to you for real and when you are alone your mind plays tricks on you and it's hard to tell what is real and what is imagined.
If you have to stay there tonight, I would be leaving all the lights on, switching on TV's, radio's etc just to create noise. I would contact your local ghost group (most towns/cities have them) first thing tomorrow.
I agree with the other comments about talking to it. It is your home now and you have the right to be there - tell them that you are tired and want to have a good night's sleep. A friend told her ghost to "be quiet" and it did.

There is a series on ITV I think called Haunted Homes and is based in the UK. It's a bit like Most Haunted but seems more genuine. It might help you out and suggest what you can do with your own situation.

You need to get some professional help in clearing your home of the visitor. I know it won't probably make you feel any safer tonight, but they are not there to hurt you, you say that you've been there for 9 years, so just think of them as a noisy member of the family or a relative that's outstayed their welcome!!!

Good luck and stay calm and strong.

I don't believe you.

If what you say is true, and you are so scared, there is no way that you would be in the house alone. You say you bought it 9 yrs. ago........How come you are still there if you are so scared. You should start on that book because you have a way of telling things....I can almost see the house. I would love to live in a big old house.

By the way, when I was a child my late granny, who believed she had witnessed several strange happenings, told me if ever I was witness to an apparition I was not to be afraid and to say 'In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, What is troubling you friend'.......I wouldn't have an idea of what to say if I got an answer.

You should have the house blessed Shalama. If I am scared by strange feelings or sounds I sprinkle holy water around while saying a prayer. Leave the lights and a radio on all night. You will be alright. God Bless.

i know how you feel
i swear my house is haunted bad things happen at mine too
if you are allowed to call someone who you know and trust it will calm you down. how old are you??? it may be a ghost and/or you.
I read in a lot of different books (not those sceptic books) that in teen years sometimes thoughts get out of your head when you are upset and go onto things and make them move. It's weird, but unless its someone playing a joke, its most likely a ghost. Dont think about scary stories!!! Watch t.v. or a happy cartoon movie that will get your mind off of it. Also, if it is a ghost they shouldn't be able to hurt you, they might just be a little raged because their loved one died or something tragic happend before they died. Here's what I suggest:
Buy an owiji board (didnt spell right)
if you cant find one go on ebay
you cant do it alone
get a friend or a family member and go into a pretty dark area and
ask your question with instructions. Please take that advice it's an old thing but it really works.
If you really don't want to do that try writting a message somewhere saying something like please dont hurt me, but not like that.
Good luck, also keep all lights on if you're really scared.

Sounds like a ghost but there might be other explanations such as electromagnetic fields etc. You could try saying outloud "Spirit go to the light" over and over again - I heard that works. Failing that then call a priest/reverend/rabbi or whatever and see if that helps. Or i suppose if you don't believe you could try a medium to do a spiritual cleansing of the house. If you tell me where you live I can maybe make some suggestions - email or IM me.

I have lived in places just like this and yes I know it's scarey. I wont tell you about it as it might make things worse for your imagination but just remember whatever the cause IT CANT PHYSICALLY HARM YOU! When things did move about, even in front of me and my family we turned it into a joke and spoke out loud, told it to pack it in as we were trying to watch tv etc., This sort of thing is usually caused by problems with teenagers going through puberty. Don't know why. But if things are really too much for you to handle then see a vicar or spiritualist for peace of mind.

It is all in your mind. Leave the house and stay with a friend for
the time required to calm down. When returning to your house
do not go alone, take your trusted friend with you and you will find
all apparitions have disappeared. Be quick and phone this trusted
friend now and clear your mind. If he/she can take you today - go.
And God bless you.

It does sound like you have unwanted guests, by the means of spirits called Poltergeists. I believe you now need your house to be cleased from this.
Dont be afraid, take deep breaths when it happens, if you wish talk to it, or tell yourself that this cant harm you.
If you believe in God, nows the time to pray, and ask for protection. I know that this might seem weird, but by just mentioning the name Jesus Christ is very powerful, in overcoming this.
It worked for me, so i cant see why it cant for you.
Good luck.

If it did not harm you or any member of your family in the time you lived their it most likely isn't planing to.I think the best thing to do is try and talk to it and see what happend other wise when u go to sleep just pray for protection through the night.
Good luck

is there anybody you can stay with for a couple of nights, you should`nt be there alone, not that anything will hurt you, just for your own state of nerves. can you go visit a church near you tomorrow and tell vicar whats been going on, he may visit you. don`t turn any lights off, leave lights on everywhere, and play music loud or tv loud. keep saying god is with me, go away, it is only negative forces, nothing to hurt you, your fear is attracting it. don`t worry too much, try and laugh it off, hard i know but sometimes it works. if you are really really frightened go to pol/station they will let you stay there for night.
