My friend and I have borrowed each others clothes for years, but lately she has gained quite a bit of weight and is a good 4 or 5 sizes bigger than me. That's fine and all, but she still borrows my shirts and they are getting all stretched out and ruined. I don't know how to approach the subject: "Sorry you can't wear my clothes anymore, you're stretching them out because you're too big"? I want to be sensitive about the subject but I can't afford to have all my clothes ruined either!

To add a few details....I'm 21 and this is my roomate, so I no longer live near my mother....and it's not her boobs that are stretching it out, it's her frame in general. I've also lost quite a bit of weight myself (and I think this might bother her)...so if i wear the baggy clothes, she would chalk it up to my losing weight. It's complicated!

just tell her that you've noticed that you no longer wear the same size. Be sweet about it and then quickly change the subject by asking her opinion about something she's good at. She already knows that she is bigger than you, all it takes is a little remark from you and she'll probably stop borrowing your clothes. But give her a chance to save face by having a "its-no-big-deal" type of attitude and then quickly moving on to another subject.

go window shopping with her. and go try out some clothes and choose a shirt that is your size and ask her to try to see how she looks. im sure she will say its too small. after that outing i think she will think before borrowing your clothes if she still dont get a hint. buy her one shirt that fit her sizes and personalize it like put you and her picture printed on it both in your size and her size. and if she still dont get the hint. the next time you wear your stretched clothes be around your mom and tell your mom to say why your shirt is soo stretched.

I think you should say to your friend in a nice manner I think we shouldn't borrow each other clothes anymore and if she happens to ask why tell her that you think the two of you should wear your own clothes .

there really isn't a nice way to do this......

except maybe if you say ....you'd rather not exchange clothes anymore and leave it at that....... but she'll probably ask why since it is a long-standing tradition...... and you'll just have to tell her the truth that you can't afford having your clothes stretched out and ruined...... you dont have to say because she is too big...she will get the point.....

if i were in your position i would just go about it nicley...such as...i would like to be my own person now and have my own style can we please try to keep our clothes to our selves....if you lie to here in some foolish ways stated above you will eventually feel bad and tell her the reason why you dont want to exchange clothes i also liked what the other girl said about telling her but not making a big deal out of it because she most likely knows she gained weight she just wants to act as if she hasnt because its a hard thing to come to terms with...another way that you can help your friend is to invite her to go do exercizing things with you...not to noticably but just let her know what your going to do and that she can come along if she wants to ....maybe she also needs someone to talk to about how she has been gaining weight and how that makes her feel cause i know that can be uncomforable to but at least you can be open with her about everything just like always...

ummm never borrow hers or let anyone else do so, also if her breast are bigger than yours you can turn this into a compliment like hey_ you wearing my shirts are making my boobs look small in my tees cause its all baggy, so can we stop doing this imean boys notice your chest but i have to work harder when shirts get srtretched out by yours..." or something like that im sure you can do better.

Take the worst stretched example, put it on in front of her and ask her honestly does she think it still fits. If she says no, explain why you think that might be. If she says yes, you know she is lying and do you still want to be her friend.

Tell her that you are have developed an allergy to the soap or scent she uses and you won't be able to loan her your clothes anymore. Tell her you're reallllly sorry because it was so much fun but you get soooo itchy.

Grow some balls! If she's too dense to realize that she's ruining them, she's too dense to take any hint other than outright TELLING her! Just tell her before you're having to run around nekkid!

On second thought....at least run nekkid for a few minutes!

Tell her your parents said you can not lend out your clothes anymore. Blame it on your parents and you will be fine. It is not like she will go up to them and ask them about it.
