If you sole purpose for upgrading is to improve your video playback then you need to look at your video card or graphics processor. From the class of your cpu I would guess that at best you have an open slot for a PCI or AGP graphics card. In addition your current graphics processor could be an integrated graphics chip on your systems motherboard.

Without know your systems model number or motherboard version I can't really help you further. The easiest way to get this taken care of is to unplug your box, take it down to the nearest Mom and Pop computer store and for a small fee ($25-50) plust the cost of the new card (under $80) you can improve your system performance. While you are there you can see if the Amount of RAM can be increased (512 is adequate) by adding another 512 MB to give a slighter system speed improvement.

Be advised that once you get past the $100 dollar mark your money will be better spent looking toward a newer system. With basic systems for under $300 its all a cost benefit thing.

Good Luck.
