Why do they pop up out of nowhere? What causes them to grow? I'm assuming it's seasonal because I just got rid of mine and noticed someone in my neighborhood has them as well. What's up with shrooms?

Thanks Juan. Now my question is why they grew in a place with no shade and plenty of sunlight. No wood chips, just grass.

Just under the soil surface and within dead (and sometimes living) plant material there are sprawling web-like filaments that grow mostly latterally. It usually must be moist for it to be actively growing.
From this material, called mycelium, there sprouts up the "fruiting body," which we call mushrooms.
Under the cap, or inside the top ball structure, there are millions of "spores" which in turn swirl around in the wind and "innoculate" new soil/material elsewhere.
These fruiting bodies, the mushrooms, are fast growing and short-lived.
It should be noted that many species are very poisonous, to the point that even if you just touch one to your tongue to taste it, you will become, possibly, violently ill and may die.
So be very careful with mushrooms, and always wash your hands if you happen to touch any.
Other mushrooms are very good to eat.
Not all mushrooms are above ground, either.

Mushrooms thrive on dead and decaying organic plant material. They particularly like wood and tree roots from lond dead trees make great mushroom fodder. Also, little pieces of chopped up wood that are under the ground make a perfect nursery for baby "shrooms" and up they come.
Just the right amount of moisture, humidity and sun or lack thereof, is what starts the mushrooms grooving.
They don't have seeds but the scatter spores which if they are blown or deposited in just the right place, will attacht to the dead organish matter and start to grow.
Every hear the remark: They are treating us like mushrooms, keeping us in the dark and feeding us ********. Well, mushrooms will grow and feast well in dark, dank places, with lots of BS or manuer to feast on.
I hope this wasn't more info than you wanted to hear! Ha!

I have seen more mushrooms grow in my neighbors yard than i have ever seen in my life. As soon as they are mowed down, they come back with a vengence. Now some are starting in mine and it sucks! Isn't some kind of shroom killer out there?

mushrooms like to pop up after a place has been burnt, or a decaying place ( in your yard). call your local gardening store and they will suggest some kind of product to get rid of the ones in the yard.
