I had knee surgery in 1998 after i tore the ligament in mine. The surgery it self wasn't to bad and i started therapy after a week after.was off work about 8 weeks but it was worth it. Just make sure he gets a second opinion and maybe a third so he won't have to have it done again and good luck.(.p.s..and the pain wasn't that bad) see if the dr can do a scope surgery if possible....pain is very minimal and i know he can tolerate it for sure....

I have never had it done but i work in a hospital and i see knee surgery's all the time, it seems like the younger people do really well after surgery, by younger i mean people in there 50s ..
They are usually up moving around the day after surgery, most of them have to use a walker for a while..
The hospital stay is usually 3-4 days depending on the person, some of the older people don't do well and end up going to a rehab center for more rehab before they can go home

I don't know about that but I did break my knee cap into three pieces recovering was very painful trying to get it to bend again, and PT. Right after surgery was not real bad because they gave me pain meds when ever I wanted them, but after they stop giving me shots and started giving me pills it hurt more but it was mainly because they had my knee wrapped up so tight. total recovery time was about 3 months and im a younger person . I was in the hospital 3 days. That doesn't mean everyone would take that long but it did me because I had to have another surgery 3weeks after the first one.

The surgery itself isn't as painful as the physical therapy that follows it, which can be torture. After my knee surgery, my knee almost locked up in a bent position. The therapist had to use hot water jets and all kinds of tricks to force it to move again. It was terrible, and it took months to get back to normal.
But not all knee surgeries are the same, so it is impossible to know how it will be for your husband.

That depends on your husbands tolerance for pain. Most people would say that on a scale of 1-10 it is going to be a 9.

The cost of knee surgery is very low in India as compared to USA, UK and Canada. You can get the surgery done there in a fraction of cost of what would you pay in USA or private UK
There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges orthopaedic surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.
I have also read that they arrange financing for American and Canadian patients as all surgery is not covered by insurance or by NHS in the UK.They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor I personally believe that your joint surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
My cousin also got her hip replacement surgery for in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She is totally pain free now. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company. Hope this helps.
