Ihave had the same project just a month ago and i tried many houshold chemicals...from dishwasher soap to bleach but the best solotion came out to be lemon juice. You can buy it from any grocery store or you can just use the lemons you have at home....good luck

Baking soda & vinegar will fizz the corrosion off of a penny. Ketchup will work too

after you have cleaned it with baking soda and water, dip it in vinegar and lemon juice. 3 parts vinegar one part lemon juice.
