My favorite of all time was called "The Second Son" by Charles Sailor. awesome book. It is about a second son of God that appears in New York City in the late 1970-early 80's . James Clavell's series of King Rat, Tai Pan, Noble House are great reading as well.

The Stand by Stephen King. It's much better and more detailed than the movie, which I also happen to like. I also like Brave New World and The Kin of Atta.

Hard to say. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides ranks up there, though. My all-time favorite classic is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I've read it five times.
