I need to answer this question for a school project. More specifically how did ancient cultures answer this question. The ancient cultures we have been Studying are China, India, Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Hebrews.

u have to keep in mind that China and India believe in Reincarnation, or past lives. therefore, u may have done something bad in ur old life, and have to pay for it now. egypt may have similar thing, where they are mummified and are buried w/ their gold and other worldly things to help them in the after life (remember the Mummy, that bad guy was "cursed" for what he did).
good luck... personally, my answer is that bad things happen to EVERYONE, good or bad. as do good things. what we need to do is seek what is Good and Right in our lives, and it will lead us to Enlightenment, and if we constantly try to become better, stronger, smarter, kinder, we will be strong enough to get thru the hard times, and appreciate ALL of it as part of our lives.

I've always wondered that same thing. But I haven't found the right answer yet. It seems like all the jerks out there get whatever the want but the greatest people don't. I've had some great people in my life pass away and it just doesn't seem right. Why, if anybody, couldn't it have been somebody out there who isn't doing anything with their life? It just doesn't make sense.

I think bad things happen to good people for a couple of reasons. 1. To make you stronger 2. so that you can recognize the good times and not take them for granted.

Bad things happen to everyone. For every action is a re-action. A person's good intentions may harm another's. This causes unavoidable conflict. So whichever side you are in, it doesn't matter. You are affected either way.
