We will be a small group of women - all reasonably fit and wish to get some fresh air, plenty of strenous activity without it being too much of an effort - hopefully incorporate some good touristy spots too! Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated, cheers!

Bornholm is certainly an option, wonderful no doubt. Only - it's rather remote from the rest of Denmark, and if you are flying in (suppose the bicycle trip is part of a trip to Denmark?), you will have to spend time and quite a few money traveling to Bornholm, the island.

Suppose you also wanna see a bit of the rest of Denmark e.g. Copenhagen, you could bike in the southern parts of Sealand (Sjælland). Take nation bike route 7. That would bring you past tourist spots like Susåen (lovely nature and sights), Gavnø Slot (a mansion with a park and cultural stuff), Herlufsholm (very old and fantastic looking boarding school and more). More on this and the national bicycle routes: see link below.

An other option is the south of Fyn (where I come from) which is adorable. Only, like Bornholm, a bit remote from what most international tourist consider the main attraction: Copenhagen.

Enjoy your time in Denmark. Remember you rain coat ;-)

Definitely Bornholm. Several years ago the local authorities had this brillliant idea of converting all the derelict railways into cycle routes. The area is relatively flat, there is a bit of history and fantastic beaches. Bornholm's speciality is warm and freshly smoked herring - a true delight. You can fly there from Denmark, or take a ferry from Sweden, Denmark and Poland (Swinoujscie, Kolobrzeg). Have a look at http://www.bornholm.info.

I recommend the lake-district. It's on the mainland (Jylland) near Silkeborg, Skanderborg etc. I've been there last summer with family and bikes.
