Because dying involves pain and that is scary! Pain is no fun! And I imagine if it's enough pain in it that you die then my gosh, this is why people are afraid and you don't get to see your family the way you used to. Death is of the unknown and it is so scary! Maybe when we cross over after death then we will know something else. But until then I'm going to fear Death! Scary Question, And God Bless You!

Because we have lost our contact with the natural process of dying. That was common a long time ago, today we sanitize and dehumanize the process to the point it becomes a scary thing we know nothing about.

Live your life to the fullest and live it well. We are here for a short time only.

You would think since the vast majority of people are religious and believe in an after life they would be more at ease with dying, but of course some where inside them they know God is imaginary and the mere thought of the unknown is frightening to them.

The instict of self-preservation.

Consider two creatures, one is just like humans but they have no fear of death. Therefore, they do things like leap off cliffs for the fun of it, randomly kill themselves and others etc.

Now, put us as we are (afraid of death) into one area and these others that have no instict for self-preservation in another area. Who will breed faster?

It is obviously in the best interest of genetic replication to do whatever you can to ensure that you at least breed before dying, and also take care of your offspring until they are ready to breed. Staying around for longer can be nice icing on the cake also via passing on knowledge, helping to skin the kills, etc. etc.

This can be seen in many animals other than humans. So these religious claims are a bit absurd unless you think that chimps have religion too ;)

The point of life is to live, to survive . The human body and mind are geared to live. People are afraid of disease because it often leads to death. People don't want to leave their loved ones behind. But eventually the body wears out and shuts down a little at a time. Everyday you live you are closer to death. But you never know when it will happen. Here's another question would you want to know?

When you die there is a mystery about where you go spirtually. Also a big part of it that no one has died and come back and said what it was like to die. Its not possible. I have always wondered if you die, are we able to see what is happening on this earth while we are not here. We are afraid of the unknown. If what happened to us when we died was known to us, we probably woudn't be afraid. I just hope that when I die, I am still able to look down on my family and watch over them.

Afraid of going to hell, maybe? Afraid there's nothing there after you die? Afraid of kicking off without accomplishing anything? Afraid of leaving loved ones needing you?

Lots of reasons.

In my opinion it is because they invest everything into this plane of existence and of course that is one of the dumbest things we do.If you really sit down and consider that we were born to die and that nothing but death is certain,it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense to attach yourself to this temporary plane of existence to any great length. But we do it all the time,In a sense all we are doing is setting ourselves up for the inevitable devastation that lies ahead. But if you study the Bible it all starts to make alot more sense when you look at it from that perspective. And Him being intelligent as He is it seems logical to me that He wouldn't want a bunch of brain-dead morons running around up there making His Heaven a living hell like they make it down here. Take Care and May God Bless You.
