and her husband wants it that way, but there have been occasions, especially when he drinks, that he tells her that she should mind her own business about his drinking because she "doesn't bring anything into the household", when I heard that I snapped and told him that she brings plenty and then some,because she puts up with his sorry butt! What is up with men like that? I know she won't divorce him. She's a great person, but I cannot believe she feels she doesn't deserve better!

Housewife is not a synonym of crap, no matter what the "modern world" thinks.
Women trapped in dead end marriages give up their self esteem and take any humilliations that their spouse hits them with. That is known as micromachismo and is violence against women. They end up thinking of themselves the way their spouses tell them they are. She needs help and he needs help. Unfortunately if you try to help she will always opt for her husband's opinion and she does it because of survival instinct, she is the one that lives with him.
I wish I could tell you something better but you could try to talk to a counselor for battered women and find out other ways you can help.

I had a friend whose marriage was similar. She wanted a divorce but was unable to take care of herself financially. She never held down a job because of him and so she finally had enough of his emotional abuse and constant put-downs. She ended up killing herself becuase of him. I wish that I could have stepped in to help her, don't let your friend down. No matter what the consquences are, you need to support her and let her know that there is life after a divorce. No one should have to go through life falsely endebted to their spouse just because they don't have an outside job.

her husband sounds like a looser he probably gets bossed around all day at work because hes a little ***** and then when he comes home he feels all big cuz he is the bread winner and trys to run ****. Reason why he dosent let her work is because he knows that theyll take her away from him easily once she realizes what a piece of crap he is. I HAD a friend that used to do this to his wife and one day she got tired of his crap and left him He is still single today and still a looser

It is her life and you should not be telling your friends husband anything. She has made her choice, she is married to him and knows what he is like. And it is obviously OK with her, she chooses to stay. If she thinks she deserves better then she should do something about it.

Maybe she doesn't divorce him because she feels financially unable to go out on her own. You should just try to be supportive of her and give help if she asks for it.

I agree. It just blows my mind what some folks put up with--or say they do. And you have first hand knowledge. Whatever rolls their oats perhaps but good grief. The human mind has incredible abilities for certain.

there are place for woman like her that can run away from him . Get a hold of your womans shelter for her i knew of a gal did that her hubby beat her for 25 + yrs she left and is doing wonderful ! got a great job looks great and is happy

we are all better persons...but if she dont like it she can leave him..this is so far up the game scale now...there isnt really anything wrong now adays to leave some one for their poor behavior...so i dont know what you real question is....
