Ibanez caters more to the metalhead/shredder type. They make Steve Vai and Joe Satriani's signature models... some numetal guys use their 7 string models...Korn...
But you can get a metal tone out of any solid body electric with the right comination of stomp boxes and amp.

fenders are nice ,but for a metal sound ibanez is great , try them before you buy them . see which sound suits you.

This doesn't answer your question but have you ever considered a Gibson? I've always been a fan of their Les Paul.
