I'm looking at getting a Sandisk Sansa (maybe 8MB) and have no idea when using Media Player 10 to rip the songs to my CDs what size to save them at. At no compression each song is 10-12MB. If I cut them down to 64 whatever they are about 2MB. Is 64 OK or should I go higher?

As in everything, it all depends on how much quality you want out of your songs. 64 is considered cd quality for WMA's. It's a good starting point. Any lower than that and most people start to hear distortions. Any higher and most people can't tell the difference. Figure 0.5 megabyte per minute at 64

The best sound quality for WMA is 192k but creates relatively large files. A good space-saving choice for use on an MP3 player would be to stick with 96k or above - go below that and you will lose high frequencies from over-compression.

A 192k WMA file is identical in audio quality to a 320k MP3 file but is only about 60% of the size.

I even have been waiting to do this. I even have an mp3 participant yet I even have extensively utilized an Ipod for this. keep the songs in this technique you utilize to place songs on your MP3 participant, ie in case you have an Ipod use Itunes. Rip the songs from the cd which you somewhat choose on there. it rather is going to positioned them in the library for that software. Plug your Mp3 participant into your laptop and decide the songs you desire to function. i'm hoping this enables in what you're searching for :D

depends partly on what kind of music you listen too. If you look under help for the various compression methods they give you some examples of music at various settings. I typically use 192kb but for some music I will use lossless. I think you meant 8GB not MB on the Sandisk

The quality of the sound will degrade if you go below 128 kbps. You must sacrifice quality or quantity.
