yes. The same way you don't understand at all, other people understand it totally. It all depends on how you grew up. If you're a strong enough person to change the morals and lessons that you grew up listening and learning, then go you. Most people can't though, and that's why, even in such a forward thinking world, we have racism

Not at all. As a disabled person I think that if I am offencive to anyone then its as though I was being offencive to myself.

Thankfully I have not come across that much racism these days, but in eh 1970's it as all over the place. I have asked a question on here about something I heard when I was a kid called 'the banana boat'. I was shocked when I heard the answer.

Unfortunately there is still allot of racism around. I know someone who spend a couple of years in a school for blind people in Kent and she came back with allot of racist attitudes, including a word that I had never heard before. 'Piki', apparently its something against travellers.

The sooner this nonsense is eradicated from society the better.

I think i kind of do understand it even though I don't like it and would never ever want to be guilty of it.

In times of uncertainty and fear, who do you expect will look after you but the people you think are the same as you - your own group, whatever you feel that to be? So everyone who is not of your group becomes a threat. Don't most wars start basically from that very natural premise?

then there's another sort, that might be called "competitive racism". You see it in Brazil, one of the most ethnically mixed nations on earth. Basically, everyone wants their kids to marry whiter than whatever they are, because white skin is linked to cash and status. I'm sure that 5000 years ago everyone wanted to look like an Egyptian - same idea.

Really not! I am so confused with the whole issue, I want to know what to tell my 4 year old daughter, but am scared that I will make a racist! I am white and have dated black, white and asian men, colour means nothing to me.

I have been brought up with some sterio typical views of the newsagents being called the 'P' word and the chinese take away being called the 'chinkies', I know this wrong and I do not say these words in front of my dauther.

My real confusion is, if she is trying to describe a black person to me, how can I get her to do this without saying, the black person?!!! Or is it OK to say the black person, the Asian person.

Am I being too PC?????????

Kind of. At least I try to because I think the best way to fight anything is to try to understand it.

But I don't understand why anyone would want to be a racist and would let themselves get drawn into a world of hatred and ignorance. It's poisonous.

Yes I understand it! They are normally people who are narcissist who need to make others less than human in order to rationalize their views and keeping them "in their place"! They are also paranoid as they are afraid that others of different races may be smarter, ie the Japanese! It isn't so much that they are smarter, they grow up with an ethic to get an education and not see how many brain cells the can destroy, like our 1.8 GPA grad of Yale!

As best as I can imagine, racism is just people hating others because they are different than them.

I don't and hate racism as one of the biggest evils on earth but it all stems from ignorance. It's easier to hate someone you don't know and harder to hate them once you get to know them and see their skin color has nothing to do with how good they are.

I totally don't get it and never found anyone who had a close to intelligent story to back it up.
People are individuals in my opinion. No 2 white people are the same and no 2 black people are the same.
