I heard that they were originally figures on a charm bracelet belonging to the inventor's wife. He used them as pieces while developing the game.

Don't know - thought they were just things you'd find around a city - probably a better explanation than this but... get this...

I believe they all represented levels of financial stability in society. The original game was created by a guy standing in the unemployment line. he created the game so that he and his wife wold be quite so depressed during the depression. Its a pretty groovy story, you should look it up.

they are items that belong to rich and poor people eg.

rich: car, top hat, ship, dog

poor: iron, boot
