Use conversion factors...

note that 1000 g = 1 kg
and that 1 kg = 2.2046226 lb(m)

The lb(m) means pound-mass as opposed to pound-force...aka just the plain old pound

440 g (1 kg / 1000 g) (2.2046226 lb / 1 kg) = 0.970 lb

Note that the g's and kg's in the numerator and denominator cancel and leave the corresponding numbers dimensionless...they will now pick up the single uncancelled lb. title when multiplied with this factor....hence the point of doing all this :)
