There are two broad types of trees. Deciduous trees include oaks, maples, ash, elm, and other trees that have what are considered leaves. Conifer trees include the pines and are characterized by their needle type leaves. Both types lose some or all of their leaves in autumn.
The leaves of deciduous trees die in autumn and most of them fall to the ground. Some species retain their dead leaves until late winter or early spring, even though they are dead. Many of the oaks are famous for this trait. It means leaf raking in both the fall and the spring.
Conifer (pine) trees lose a lot of their needles every fall, but they also retain a lot of live needles through the winter. The tree goes dormant in winter and the green needles are ready for the first warm days of spring.
Good luck with your search for information.

This is called moulting. Most chickens do this in the Autumn time, kind of in the way that trees loose their leaves. But, your chicken will not have to wait until Spring to get her new feathers. She will grow then back very soon and will have nice new feathers to help keep her warm and waterproof for the Winter. She may not lay any eggs while she is moulting because she is putting all of her energy and nutrients into growing new feathers. I have heard that sunflower and pumpkin seeds help chickens during this time, so if you have access to any raw, unsalted ones, you might give her some for a treat. She may be crabby during moulting, and she will definitely be scruffy and not so pretty. Good luck, and enjoy watching her new feathers grow!

The chicken is molting. Chickens molt so they can get brand new feathers. This is very normal, no need to be alarmed.
