Hey!

Is this for your english coursework or something? I just finished my english a-level and we had to do this.

I would go against a newspaper article...they're done too many times. You'll get more marks for doing something unique. Personally I would try and turn it into a short film...like the ones we got shown in primary school about not talking to strangers and getting into their car. Hansel and Gretel are kids and the witch is the stranger tempting them with sweets.

If you do it from the witches point of view then do it as a monologue or something. Change as much as you can like the audience, genre, and mode (i assume you're using a written version of the fairy tale so changing it to film or a monologue will change the mode from written to spoken)

Have fun!

If you need any more help with this then send me an e-mail, I'd be happy to help

A thriller about the making of a documentary ... the witch's cousin is out to clear the poor dead witch's name. Interviews all the characters she can find associated with the event. Lots of conflicting facts. The woodsman reveals the children were juvenile delinquents and drugged him. He had met them in the forest and worried about them getting lost, when he came to after they had drugged him, he found the local policeman all tied up. H. and G. ran away from him as he was guiding them to the House of Retention; They then proceeded to vandalise a Herbalist's cottage, ended up killing her. However, the local vicar insists the kids were no better but no worse than others; did some lovely charity work and were wonderfully generous at the Harvest Festival; loved working with the elderly ... etc. etc. Lots of different things to believe or not to believe ...and a whole host of new characters ...In the end, you make no conclusion, just let the readers make up their own minds.

How about little Hansel & Gretel skipping off to Rory Emerald's Bel Air mansion in California?

Excellent question!

I like your idea that she comes off innocent.
+ I definitely second the educational short film idea, especially because fairy tales used to be a means of communication (media) and education - transferring it to a relatively modern medium is adequate and interesting. If no camera etc. is available you could simply write a script.
Another idea: Write it from a psycho analyst's point of view. Hänsel (narrowly escaped from being eaten) and Gretel (slavery, nearly lost her brother) are both traumatized. Father feels guilty because he wasn't able to help his children. Mother might have committed suicide because she also felt guilty. The witch might have been paranoid delusional or whatever.

perfect question. i write plays. and have long thought about doing a rehash of hansel and gretel as a metaphor for the sex trafficing in europe, with the witch's/pimp's stupidity being thier undoing. try writing that from the witches point of view!

Write a newspaper article about the search for 2 missing children. Foul play is suspected.

Maybe an interview- something like Oprah, or Jerry Springer. Could get all the characters to have their say, and also make a comment on how truth is subjective.

In order make her look innocent I think you would have make it look like Hansel and Gretel lied about what she did. Or that she was kidding.

How about the kids' mother doing an anti-environmentalism rant where she says if they had let the wood cutter clear-cut the forest then her kids would not have had all those problems from going into the woods?
