Open hood, as you are standing at the front look to the right (driver's side) front of the engine. Just below the alternator, you will see a small reservoir cap about 2" across, made of plastic. Remove it, and check the level with the dip-stick on the cap.

Of course with the engine off, raise the hood, look on the drivers side of the engine behind the belts and find a black cap about 3 inch's round. Turn it to the left about a quarter turn until free. Raise it up and you Will see marks at the bottom end of a short dip stick. refill with the proper fluid and not over full.
Fluid should be checked hot, engine stopped. Don't do it engine running, you can loose fingers.

first off, how do you know you need to?

open your hood, look where the steering shaft comes out of cab and into the enginge compartment. it is attached to the gearbox down by your left front tire. now follow the 2 hoses from the gearbox up to the pump. it will have a pulley and and a belt on it. there should be a filler cap on the top. sometimes it is hidden back behind the belt. be careful not to overfill or get dirt in it. then get the leak fixed.
