I am 4 weeks pregnant. I have been having some very mild cramps on and off for couple of weeks now, nothing particuarly painful, similar to period cramps but lighter. I wasn't too worried about them but called a doctor just to check everything was ok. What he said has now terrified me and I'm really worried. He says that there is probably something wrong with the pregnancy and i have a high chance of misscaraige. When I said that I have been having these little cramps/aches for a while now but not constantly, and could it be just my body adjusting to the pregnancy, he told me that is an old wives tale, and u don't get cramps in early pregnancy????? I am absolutely terrified now. I have had a misscariage a few years ago and am really worried. Has anyone out there experienced cramps in early pregnancy?? and if so, what were they like and how long did it go on for??

shygirl - It is absolutely true. He was a doctor from my practice, although i have never seen him personally, I was a bit worried so I called them and asked a doctor to call me back. That is what he said

You need to be calm Lisago. Years ago (in olden times) I had pains early in pregnancy and was given some medicine and told to rest for a few days as I had been overdoing it. Months later I had a beautiful daughter and everything was great. Just take it easy and don't be frightened. You and your baby will be well. Relax. God Bless.X

first of all, the "doctor" you consulted should not be allowed to practice medicine. No doctor worth a .... would tell you something like that over the phone. They would have you in and check you out. There would be know way to know why you are cramping by a conversation on the phone. To give advice like that over the phone is medical malpractice. Second of all, many women experience cramps in the begining of pregnancy. Sorry but none of this rings true. I cant imagine a doctor telling you anything like what you described. Go see a real doctor ASAP.

I am sorry that your doctor is an ***. I was 4 weeks pregnant when i found out that i was actually pregnant . I thought i was about to start my period, i had 2 days of spotting which i counted as a period when infact i was pregnant. I have endometriosis so my cramps are quite intense. I cant quite remember how long they lasted for but i would say that there we period like cramps until my 5th or 6th month. I wouldnt worry too much about it but do keep an eye open for anything unusual.

With all 3 of my pregnancies I had CRAMPS in the first few weeks to months.
It is your body getting ready for this baby to start growing. Things are moving quickly and your body needs time to adjust.
Make an appointment with a NEW DIFFERENT OB/GYN. Get a second opinion on this matter.
Better to be safe now than sorry later on!

No you're fine, cramps are just the baby implanting itself into the unterine wall, also could be the stretching of your uterus for the baby, as long as it is not accompanied by heavy bleeding , a little is fine, due to what is going on in there right now! you're early on in the pregnancy things are bound to feel wierd, and strange, and of course new.
You would not be a normal mom to be if you did not worry about a misscarriage.

I had cramps like pains. MY doctor said it's perfectly normal. The pain went away after a month or so. I didn't feel similar pains since. 16 weeks now - so far, so good.
Maybe, ask other doctor's opinion, or ask for ultrasound.
Good luck/

i have never been pregnant but this doctor is some moron. Why did he tell you that?? there is nothing wrong right now is there? no spotting, bleeding, etc? He made you upset and worried over nothing. Just relax, it will not be the first time a doctor was wrong. I could just kick that man omg how dumb is he. Please Please, just relax, all this worrying will only cause you to have more cramps, just becuse you're so nervous. Sweetie just remember, as long as you're not bleeding you should be ok for now.

I had slight cramps when i was first pregnant also. I asked my dr about it and he said it was my uterus preparing to stretch. It didn't last for a long time, maybe a few weeks, but it was scary because I had a previous miscarriage also. I would find a new dr if you can. Good luck!

I experienced cramps early in my pregnancy too. I thought it was my period, because I still didn't know that I was pregnant. Everything was fine.
