A lot of feed stores sell both hay and chicks in the spring. Some hatcheries will sell started pullets if you are loooking for something ready to lay eggs- in that case you need to live close enough to pick them up yourself.

You can order chicks from McMurray hatchery. this is where my brother always gets his. They can send you a catalog with photos of all the different types too.
