You forgot the parentheses?

4(5-4)5 = (4)(5)
(4)(1)(5) = 20
20 = 20

Of course it doesn't. Implied in what you wrote are base ten numbers and standard operators on those real numbers. If what you wrote were true, which it isn't, all of mathematics would fail to be valid.

Trick questions like this one do a disservice to math and people who put their trust in math. Had you posited this question fairly, you would have indicated that these numbers were not base ten real numbers and the standard minus sign was not a standard (subtraction) operator.

45 in ASCII is the hyphen. Thus, (-)(-)(-) = (-). And (-1)^3 = -1.
