Im not playing burned dvds,I mean boxed originals like disney films for my kids,it used to play all their dvds now it plays nothing not even ones that used to work,I dont wanna chuck it if its something simple like the lense, should I open it & look,is it like a cd player inside..I dont have much to lose..£15 dvd player? yeh but are they any good,I paid £60 for mine 18 months ago & we hardly ever use it.

Get a new one, they are a lot cheaper now .don't get an expensive they seem to be more fussy on which discs to play, and more fussy about playing copy's. that was the advice from a sales person,I have two dvd players the one I got with the new tv is fussy, the cheaper one I have I have in guest room plays just about anything. Ask in the shop you go to, for a demo. if they refuse go else where.. Wine fly

well it could be a couple of things....
1. your lense could be off a little bit
2.the motor may be going out that spins the disk
3.it may need cleaned (the dvd or the player poss both)
4.it may just be the type of disk that it is ... not all dvd players read all disks. depends on how old your dvd player is.

my dvd player does read burned disks and it is at least 5 yrs old, but it will not read all of them.... sometime it depends on the brand of disks.

You don't mention which make - we get a heap of players back in for repair and nearly always the laser is faulty. With the cost of players these days being so cheap, you'll probably find it cheaper to replace rather than repair.

If it's an older player, throw it and get a new one. They are cheap nowadays, and much easier than trying to get it fixed. If it's newer, it should still have some sort of manufacturers warranty.

It may be the disc ur using try DVD+r instead of DVD-r or vice versa that should solve it if the disc is clean new and the dvd is new and not broken

it might be done for. Try taking it to a repair shop. Do you still have a warranty on it...take it back to the store if you do.
