Don't try to appease her, that will only make things worse as she will feel she is achieving something. Instead, try to talk to her, be direct and put her on the spot, but remain completly professional. You have to make her feel inferior to you, so ask her directly what she thinks your doing wrong, and what you can do together to rectify them. She then has to be direct so if you are doing things wrong you know how to solve them, and if she can't put her finger on it straight away inform her this is a personal agenda she seems to have against you (which it could be) and that your willing to work with her to resolve it but if she is unwilling to show the same co-operation in the benefit of you, her and the firm, then you will take this personal vendetta further. Remember, no swearing or agressive approaches or you are in the wrong then.

Do you own a house in the area or are you renting an apartment? This applies only if you are renting an apartment.

Some of the older mindset employers equate buying a house with job stability. It has something to do with how easy it is to change jobs and move to a new location. If you are living in an apartment and your boss has that mindset there isn't anything you can do about it.

You call her a 'spinster' just because she's single? And you wonder why she hates you and thinks you're a waste of time? You'd do well to appreciate the reasons why she's your boss (and not the other way around). Know that flawless good manners and maturity will get you very, very far in whatever it is you choose to do in life.

quit. she might actually like you then.

also, all the people who think spinster is an ofensive term is an idiot!!!

spinster is a term reffering to an unmarried woman the same way a bacholar refers to an unmarried man. why is it ok to use the term bacholar and not spinster???? isnt that extremely sexist??? whatever happened to equal rights?? if spinster is 'banned' then so should bacholar.

the people who took offense were obviously women (who are more sexist then all the men put together) and the concept of equalness is obviously too much for their small brains to handle.

all i can say to these women (from the words of Cartman) is "HEY, WOMAN!!! GET BACK IN THAT KITCHEN AND MAKE ME SOME PIE!!!!"

Ask her what she wants you to do to prove to her that you are committed. I am in charge of quite a few people who appear to me to be much less committed than everyone else. If they came to me & asked me what they could do to improve, I would instantly change my view on them because I would know they want to make the effort. I would tell them what I expect them to do to prove themselves, & I would expect to see a difference in their performance or attitude to work. I doubt she hates you, I have 2 ladies working for me who really make my blood boil with the way they work so slowly & ineffectively but I don't hate them, they are really nice people. It's nothing personal, there is just something you are failing in, but at the same time, she is failing you by not correcting the problem she is obviously having with you. In short, ask her what she wants & give it to her.

Spinster????? How OLD are you? Lord I haven't heard anyone who isn't married called a SPINSTER in forty years!!!!!!!

Perhaps your attitude is getting in your way and that's why she thinks you're a detriment. Lose the term ' spinster ' and looking down your nose at her not being married attitude and you might do better.

And dear heart, many married women silently envy women who never married , though they'd never tell them that.

She's earned her experience and trust me 38 ain't old. Better stop thinking that too, you'll get there sooner than you realize.

Work harder? Seriously, ask her what sort of committment she is expecting in your next appraisal. Is it longer hours, more proactive in solving potential problems? If you are still having serious problems, talk in private to your personnel officer. If all else fails - leave, it's your choice to "like it or lump it".

PS - Being a 38-year-old spinster has NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, thank-you!

Do some hard work be punctual where you are not sure ask if in doubt ask her. Tell her what you think the firm can do to improve its products. Respect her and be nice to her do not treat her like a woman treat her like a professional and your senior.

Don't take personal calls at work. Don't let dates pick you up at work. Dress professionally--no jeans and no mini skirts.

The biggest beef bosses have, esp women bosses, is all the personal phone calls. It's ok for THEM to have some, but they don't want to see their employees on the phone all the time.
