Hello,

I just got a new desktop, it comes ready with a wireless LAN installed inside. My laptop, though, doesn't have any wireless connection available. How can I network both computers? It doesn't have to be wireless, so long as I have them connected.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

hi .. u cant try this with an Ethernet cable. U the two pick a bypass over cable . . or a Router. If u use a bypass over cable to connect 2 pc's. and then merely run the community Setup Wizard and make sure that report & printer sharing is enabled after which you have a community working admittedly small and you will ought to manually proportion products which you quite pick shared by ability of figuring out on the object appropriate clicking on it and selecting Sharing then tick the field that asks you to proportion this merchandise and then ok the proportion. you could run into issues if between the desktops has a Gigabite LAN Connection geared up in as Crossover Cables do not paintings extraordinarily nicely with this kind of LAN Connection and then it would be greater valuable to circulate to a unmanaged swap/Hub and a couple of X CAT5 or 6 cables. reckoning on the place you purchase this from you could locate that the Hub and CAT5 cables are in hassle-free terms slightly greater costly than the Crossover Cable and now and returned greater decrease priced yet this relies upon on the place you're planing on figuring out to purchase the products from. in hassle-free terms a notice of warning right here in case you do purchase a Crossover Cable make sure that that is Black now days lots of the makers of CAT Cables are making use of the comparable cable to make right this moment & crossover Cables and the only way which you would be able to tell the version is two products of sticky paper caught on the threshold of the ends while the cable is new this clearly comes off with time and can reason significant issues latter via fact the Crossover cable is merely solid for connecting 2 desktops mutually and can not be used while different community cables are in place. So if there's a glaring distinction interior the cable colour that is person-friendly to pickup on and greater decrease priced to fault locate while some tech walks in to restoration up something.

(1) Since your desktop already have wireless LAN, then buy USB wifi for your laptop (see link for AD-HOC connection). or;
(2) If both have RJ45 connectors, buy a CROSS-OVER LAN cable (if you want to connect without HUB. If you have hub, then it should be straight and not cross-over). Set their respective IPs.

If one can connect to the Internet and wish to connect the other to the Internet even without ROUTER use a proxy server like FREEPROXY.

Use a router or a crossover cable will work, but I prefer using a router.
