I guess I just dont understand why? The world changes and everyone changes with it... why not just accept the fact that there are same sex relationships and move on.. its not like it affects these people( who are homophobic) on a deep personal basis I mean its not like its going to affect their choices of who they are going to be with...

The core cause of this fear is the result of the fact that many homophobes, including most virulent, violent homophobes are themselves repressed sexually, often with same sex attractions. One of the recent studies done at the University of Georgia among convicted killers of gay men has shown that the overwhelmingly large percentage of them (more than 70%) exhibit sexual arousal when shown scenes of gay sex. The core fear, then, for the homophobe is that he himself might be gay, and might be forced to face that fact. The homophobia can be as internalized as it is externalized - bash the queer and you don't have to worry about being aroused by him.

Secondly there prob just so bored with there lives there terrified gays may be doing it better or enjoying it better…and this unfortunately is very true..we do!

People are idiots. Some are afraid of what they don't know or understand. Some people want everyone to be like them. And some people hold onto their Bible so tight that they can not see past Adam and Eve. I try to stay away from those type of people. Same sex couples have been around for ever. They just had to hide their true selves from the rest of the world. It has just recently become a more common sight. Don't pay attention to homophobic people. Their brains are too small to see past their own ignorance.

Subject Interesting reponse from ABC
Body: AN ABC MESSAGE YOU HAVE TO READ
If more of us took a stand maybe we could have some decent TV programs. -- Jim Nugent is a coach in Childress, Texas.

Jim writes:

My name is Jim Neugent. I wrote to ABC (on-line) concerning a program called "THE PRACTICE." In last nights episode, one of the lawyer's mothers decided she is gay and wanted her son to go to court and help her get a marriage license so she could marry her 'partner.' ! I sent the following letter to ABC yesterday and really did not expect a reply, but I did get one.

My original message was:

ABC is obsessed (or should I say abscessed) ! with the subject of homosexuality. I will no longer watch any of your attempts to convince the world that homosexuality is OK. THE PRACTICE can be a fairly good show, but last night's program was so typical of your agenda. You picked the 'dufus' of the office to be the one who was against the idea of his mother being gay and made him look like a whiner because he had convictions. This type of mentality calls people like me a "gay basher." Read the first chapter of Romans (that's in the Bible) and see what the apostle Paul had to say about it.... He, God and Jesus were all 'gay bashers'. What if she'd fallen in love with her cocker spaniel? Is that an alternative lifestyle? (By the way, the Bible speaks against that, too.)

Here is ABC's reply from the ABC on-line webmaster:

How about getting your nose out of the Bible (which is ONLY a book of stories compiled by MANY different writers hundreds of years ago) and read the declaration of independence (what our nation is built on), where it says "All Men are Created equal," and try treating them that way for a change! Or better yet, try thinking for yourself and stop using an archaic book of stories as your lame crutch for your existence. You are in minority in this country and your boycott will not affect us or our freedom of statement.

Jim Neugent's second response to ABC:

Thanks for your reply. From your harsh reply, evidently I hit a nerve. I will share it with all with whom I come in contact. Hopefully, the Arkansas Democrat Newspaper will include it in one of their columns and I will be praying for you.

I would imagine the reasons vary. I bet some were abused as children, some are struggling with their sexual identity, some are religious zealots, some are simply rednecks ( I can say that I am from Kentucky).

I believe most have a level of fear in their hearts! I feel sorry for them - can you imagine how terrible it is to walk around and just have hate in your heart all the time?

Why do some people love to use a term that has no basis in most applications? Homo-man, phobic-fear. I can disagree and dislike homosexuality, but I don't fear homosexuals (unless they are enraged, but I have similar feelings of concern when hetersexuals are enraged).

You aren't accepting of them, why should they be giving you a blank check?

Because some people are narrow minded and intolerant. I wish everyone was tolerant of each other regardless of gender, race, religion, orientation...

You know, that's a funny word. What you actually mean is 'Why do some people hate gays?' I don't, by the way.
But the words 'homo' and 'phobic' actually mean, 'fear same'.
Criminals who beat up homosexuals because of their sexuality clearly do not fear them, they have contempt for human liberty.
What the word should be is something like misogyny, 'hate women', perhaps 'misohomo'.
How was the word ever invented?
