I started taking a vocals musicianship class at school this year because I'm really interested in learning how to sing. The problem is, everyone else in this class has a lot more backround in singing than I do. They've all either been in a musical, been in a choir, or have performed solo onstage. I haven't done anything like that. I sing pretty good but I don't know any singing techniques. When it comes to a time when I must sing in front of everyone for a test, I don't want to be embarassed nor do I want a bad grade because I am an amatuer singer. What should I do?

don't compare yourself to others. As long as you work hard and reach your maxium potential, you should be able to get a good grade. If thats not the case, then maybe you should switch to an easier class.

Here is the method used by the greats:

Get the best c.d. from your favorite vocalist, and let them take you to school. Sing along until you have every word memorized, them sing some more. Sing until every phase, breath, vibrato, inflection, nuance is firmly implanted in your body and mind.

When you have it perfect, sing some more. Sing until you are sick of hearing the music and bored out of your mind. Now, finally, you are ready. You will stun your peers with your new vocal prowess.

I've used this method, and received a great recording contract offer as a direct result.

Just be yourself and have faith in your voice. I think singing is a natural talent,no fancy techniques will help if you can't sing...like me ! Don't worry about other people having more experience than you.If you have the raw talent, experience is gained along the way.Everyone must get nervous when it comes to a test,so remember that, and the teacher/judges won't expect miracles. Good luck

You are in the class to learn and develop YOUR talent-stop looking at them and compete against yourself and enjoy yourself!

i know that you are different but you have to believe in yourself...you're new but that makes you unique...show them what you got! show them that you don't need to have a background in singing, just sing your heart out and you'll do just fine...good-luck...
