A serous intellectual trying to engage the minds of the world about serious questions of faith and reason and history of Islam and of christianity. He is trying to do good and he is trying to do his job, which is to speak about man and God and man and his soul and asking the faiths to dialog.
In doing so the Moslem world blows up.
The Pope quotes from a letter between Byzantine Christian Emperor Manuel Paleologos II and a Persian scholar written in 1391 asking for Dialog and stopping Jihad and death to convert people to islam. This is considered an insult to Islam.
By the way that Pope died at the hands of Jihad, His Church turned into a Mosque, his people killed, enslaved, forced to pray to Allah, and his Empire turned into the Turkish Empire.
What do you think?
Extra credit: Name the Christian born Sex Slave girl that brought the beginning of the fall of the Turkish Empire.

We are supposed to look the other way when Christians are attacked. But then get all sympathetic when Islam is denegrated? Not me!
Too many people don't see the irony in Muslims being able to desecrate a Christian Temple in Jerusalem by spreading feces on images of Christ? But a Christian leader (the Pope) can’t remind people of what 14th century Byzantine emperor Manuel Paleolous II said about the profit Mohammad several hundred years ago. It wasn’t even the Popes own words or thought. He was repeating what Paleolous II supposedly said. . What’s with the hypersensitivity anyway?
The Muslims can dance in the streets; shout and yell; raise their fists all they want to but I do not believe the Pope owes Muslims an apology for anything.
Some have contended the terrorists are a form of radical Islam and a small minority of the faith. They say the large majority of Muslims are a peaceful people. I am beginning to wonder about these claims when I see the reported millions in the streets protesting what the Pope repeated.
Two faced or what? Is Islam a peaceful religion or a violence based religion? By what I am seeing and hearing, I would have to conclude the latter.

At a time when the world is trying to get Islamic states on it's side the leader of the worlds 3rd largest religion decides to attack the worlds 2nd largest religion by quoting a 14th century Emperor. Coming just days after the 5th anniversary of 9/11 the pope's PR people have really screwed up. His comments have insulted these people and now Catholics seek to justify his comments. Ask you self this what would the worlds response been to G. Bush coming out with this statement and you may begin to understand why this uproar has begun.

Pope said that Islam was spread on the base of Violence.
Muslims ruled for 800 years in Spain , but people are still non Muslim there.
Muslims ruled for a 1000 years in India , still 85 percent of the Indian population is non-Muslim. Do you think that 1000 years was a small time? If Islam was to be spread by sword in India , every single non-Muslim will be forced to convert to Islam or else killed. This is very clear that Islam don't allow any Muslim to force some one to convert to Islam. Becaue if some one dont accepts Islam by heart , he is not a Muslim at all. so it is useless to force any one to come to Islam
Muslim never ruled in Indonesia but still it is the country having largest Muslim population.
America is a country in which the growth rate of Islam is highest as compared to any other religion. Is Osama Bin Laden preaching Islam in America????? ?
if Pope has some dignity and courage , he should come to have a speech with Muslim scholars and prove his statements.
"Why can't he see what's being done in Iraq, Afghanistan and West Asia?"
"The Pope has toed the US line of campaign against the Islamic world. But I would like to ask the Pope what he thinks about the US and UK atrocities in Iraq."

Do you really want to get into the Crusades? Go back to the first Crusades when the Christians were maurading and killing Jews, Muslims, and other faiths in the Middle East. Who was tolerant here and why doesn't the Pope quote some of those Crusaders? How many deaths was Richard the Lionheart responsible for and how many of them broke up those communities living together. A serious intellectual considers all sides not just one.

Put it right. He's being criticized only by muslims. In Italy they are asking the Vatican to express public excuses, which will not happen.
He simply mentioned an historical fact about one of the many cruel acts muslims did since their origins. It's amazing how they blame the crusaders for their invasions but always forget when they invaded Spain and Italy, raping priests and nuns, beheading them and then putting their heads on top of poles, as well as sticking poles inside their back holes and making them come out of their mouth and many many many other things. It took a huge army to kick them back, in lack of which Europe today would be called Eurabia.
Catholic Church is beginning to react to the continued muslim attacks to christianity.

Respectable Muslims certainly do not advocate violence and will certainly listen to a call for prudence. Fundamentalist Muslims are the first to scream bloody murder, many Muslims have complained that is the reason why Muslims in general are viewed as intolerant violence driven fanatics. A small portion gives the whole a bad name. Talk about rotten apples...
