I am trying out for Annie soon. I have nothing to sing, though. I know none of the songs from the play. Let me repeat that to everyone that says I should sing Tomorrow:

I KNOW NONE OF THE SONGS FROM ANNIE!
I KNOW NONE OF THE SONGS FROM ANNIE!
I KNOW NONE OF THE SONGS FROM ANNIE!

Okay, now that that's cleared out, I would like to sing a song that my choir is singing, because I would be confident and know how to sing it, which are brownie points in tryouts. I just can't decide what to sing! Here's a list of songs that our choir is singing:

Scales and Arpeggios
Benedictus
Angel's Carol
Carol of the Bells
Hush my Babe
Star Spangled Banner
Simple Gifts

Thank you to anyone who can answer for me!

Oh, yes, and I'm trying out for the part of Ms. Hannigan. Whoo old drunks 0_o

Okay, I can't emphasize this enough: sing something that fits your range. DO NOT try to hit notes that you know you can't, because that's never pretty. I'd also say it depends on your vocal part. If you're really into musical theatre, pick something amazing (i.e. Defying Gravity, Out Tonight, maybe even something from Les Mis if you're feeling nostalgic) and go for it.

Break a leg at auditions, whatever you end up choosing. :)

If you have the range for it, and the pitch precision, go with the Star Spangled Banner every time. Sung well, it makes the best impression that can be made. If you don't have the range down to sing that national anthem, then go with simple gifts, but jazz it up a little.

The most important thing when trying out for a musical is volume. It doesn't matter how gorgeous your voice is, if you don't have the volume and breath support behind it, you won't get a good part. So don't stretch your abilities. Stick with what you know you can do, loud and in tune. THAT will win you a part is anything will.

Sweetie if you have the time and possibility, try an annie song anyway! Thats what will do your tryout good. If you go for a musical wich you have never heard a song of, or do not know any songs from, chances are they will not take you very serious. Put some work in it while (and if) you still can!

A song that will get you the part of Ms. Hannigan should be kinda loud and brassy (just like her). None of your choir songs strike me as being particulary over the top, so I say, get a new one and practice it until you're comfortable.

I suggest:
"When You're Good to Mama" from Chicago
"When You Got It, Flaunt It" from The Producers
"Everything's Coming Up Roses" from Gypsy
"You Can't Stop The Beat" from Hairspray

Break a leg!

From that list of songs sing "Simple Gifts." But kick but on the acting. Play her way over the top. If you want that part, your voice isn't as important as your acting. You may also like the part of Ms. H's brother's girlfriend...the hotel. Break -a-leg!

By the way very few people sing "Star Spangled Banner" well. Don't do it.

Carol of the Bells would be good, but one quick word of advice, maybe go to the store and get the Annie soundtrack. It really will help, I know that for a fact. Good luck with the tryouts. God Bless!

Try "Send In The Clowns" and "Losing My Mind" both by
Stephen Sondheim, or "Can't Help Loving That Man Of Mine"
by Jerome Kern. If you do these songs right, you'll win the
role of Mrs. Hannigan hands down. Good luck!.

Sing of sturdy issues no longer undesirable, sing of chuffed no longer unhappy. Sing, Sing a track, sing it basic to final the entire night long. do no longer worry if its no longer sturdy sufficient for every person else to hearken to, merely sing, sing a track.

From your list I'd do Scales and Arpeggios, or Star Spangled Banner.
