These Yanks make me laugh - cashcrate, girl scouts, prom dresses - roflmao.

Anyway at least you got some good ideas from others. I would recommend you ask at your local public library. I know it's a bit "old school", but librarians are trained to give out information (as well as lend books!). They might have ideas for the some of the areas that were not covered well by earlier answers - e.g. beautician and interior designer.

Good luck elle!

How about photography? I did work experience at two different studios and loved every minute of it - the good thing is that even if the photographers are too busy to be with you they will lend you a camera and some kind of set-up for you to try things out yourself.

Don't think about doing something for work experience unless you're thinking of studying the subjects needed (art, drama, design etc). Bear in mind you'll need to take your education a lot further and make some contacts to get a foothold in anything 'arty'. Good luck. (I became a secretary in the end - BIG mistake!)

Depends on your area, are there any design houses there or anything in the region which you want to do. First you will need to write to them and ask for work experience, this will be done through your class at schol, and then if theeducation authority approves of the company and as long as they has a H & S assessment and have employers liability insurance you should be ok.

I haven't heard of any theatres offering high school co-op programs, but I could be wrong.
Depends where you live of course.
Why not contact your co-op counsellor and see if she can find you a retail outlet which sells fashions. You could shadow the buyers and see what they look for in fashion, where they buy them, if they have tailors in store. They might allow you to go on buying trips with them and you'd get to meet whole salers and perhaps designers.

Perhaps you could shadow someone in a spa or beauty parlor? Best bet though-why not get involved in your hs theatre arts department and get experience there acting , singing, set design and building etc and see if you like it?

what do you mean "work experience is coming up soon"?
It doesn't just come up.
Why not join the girl scouts and go to camp, then become a counselor or instructor of some kind. Or look around for jobs as playground instructors, or help out at some park planting, taking people on indoor tours.

Start by asking yourself - what do I already do that I enjoy. If it is fashion, jewelry - start by going to the thrift shop -buying some cool clothes and then refashioning them, or start by making some jewelry.

If you are leaning more towards performing arts - you can get involved in community and school plays now to see if that is something you like and want to do.

Contact your local theatre, arts studio, dance studio etc. Look in the phone book/yell.com etc Otherwise your school should have a list of agencies/companies that provide work experience for students and if you get in early you will have a good placement.
Good for you for being so organised.x

Email all local fashion shops or brands asking for work experience placements or phone any contacts which are directly or indirectly joined to these industries (i.e your family friends),another option would be to ask your career advisor and see if they have any ideas.
