I've seen so many abused question marks, overcrowded exclamation points, overworked commas, and oh, the poor periods - they're either neglected or forced to do jobs they're not built for.

It's so sad. :(

I don't know, but it drives me berserk. You left out me pet peeve, though. Quotation marks are not for emphasis. If you put something in quotation marks you have either quoted it from another source or you mean it ironically. Makes you wonder about all those no parking signs, doesn't it. Parked cars will be "towed away." Now, either the author of the sign was so unoriginal that he couldn't come up with that phrase himself, or he's going to do something really nasty to your car that, for the sake of the children on this site, is better off simply being called "towed away."

Because people don't care about their language.
I agree.
It's damn hard to read questions when people do not punctuate!

so long as the writer is consistent with puncuation it does not matter

and what am i to do about it - maybe we can lobby for them so that they can get better rights. what you think miss english major?
