I have Verizon DSL with 768K connection speed. Last night, I purchased some music for download, and as one of the albums was downloading, I received an incoming call that stopped it. I had to cancel the download and restart it to get my music. I thought the whole idea of DSL was that you could be on the phone and Internet at the same time?

Yes, I have filters properly installed on all my phone line-using equipment, but I also still have my dial-up line (filtered) connected to my computer. Could this have something to do with it?

DSL and phone line are essentially share the same pipe of information coming into your house.

If you read the fine print, the company probably said up to 768K connection rather than a guarantee of 768K connection.

We switched from DSL to Cable. With DSL every time there is a storm that knock the phone line down, the DSL Internet access goes with it. We also experienced more problem with our cordless phone when the incoming calls are going through the filter. Like calls don't get hang up properly or immediately. Since swithching to Cable, we never have any trouble.

ADSL is asyncronous subsequently the voice fringe of the telephone line is break away the information ingredient even though it makes use of the comparable "cord" to those that say broadband isn't something to do with the telephone line your incorrect. you will get cable broadband which doesnt use the telephone line yet ADSL is likewise broadband and does require a telephone line (as does ISDN)
