In order to be able to save money, you must realize where you SPEND your money. Keep all of your receipts, then at the end of the month, look at where you spend your money and figure out where you can cut things out (like eating out or going out all the time) and limit yourself. It's hard to cut things out completely because you want what you can't have.

The most simple way is to pay yourself first. Anytime you get money (paycheck, bonus, whatever) take a set amount and put it in a savings account. Some places will let you set up an allotment for a certain amount from your checking account on the same day every month. That's the best way so you don't really notice it leaving and so you don't miss it. It really needs to be a savings account so you will earn interest and it will take a little effort on your part to take it out. Then tell yourself that using that money is not an option!

Well what I do is, never spend a single coin. I always break money and then all that change (coins, no bills) I get back, I put in a jar. After about a month or so, I roll it up. I usually have at least 50-70 dollars after a month or so. Then I just give it to the people at the bank and deposit. Its an easy way to save without feeling like you have less money.

A couple of years ago i started i started 'collecting' £5 notes - each time i had one i put it away in the drawer. Now this does take some willpower not to dig in at the slightest thing but in the past 2 years i have managed to save £2500 which i would otheriwse have wasted.
I've not missed the money and its proved a great way to save, plus there is nothing better than walking into the bank with a huge wad of notes and watching the cashier count it...!

If your company offers it, have them deduct a certain amount from your check each payday. You won't spend it if you act like it isn't there!
Put it into a special savings account, and do not TOUCH it! Put in as much as you can into a 401K, too, it's pre-tax, and most employers match at least SOME of it---which is truly FREE MONEY. The best part of a 401K is that you can only get it at retirement or huge hardship case.

You can set up a savings account that will automatically draw a certain amount of money from your checking account every month. Or if you have the option of direct deposit at work, you can often arrange for a certain percentage of your paycheck to automatically be deposited into your savings account. That's the best option for myself, as it's easier to pretend the money doesn't exist.

Do not compet for things with your friends and neighbours. If you do not have cash to buy something do not buy it because you can not afford it. Do not go around getting loans and Credit cards. The only thing you should buy using a loan is a house save deposit money before you buy. Be carefull when buying gifts for friends. Use public transport cook all your meals and carry your lunch to work.

Put a pound or 2 in a Jar every day that isn't easy to open. Each time you go to the bank put it in an account that requires say 30days notice to access, and it will build up in no time. Because you have to offer notice to get at it you will forget its there and let it build up until you really need it.

stop spending, cut up your credit cards, move into an efficiency apartment or share an apartment with someone else, don't use cable or a cell phone, don't buy music, shut off your computer, drive less than 10,000 miles a year, don't buy anything (except food and insurance), when your income comes in pay yourself first, and take on 2 or 3 jobs (on the way to or from your main job or very near the place you live).
