Enthalpy is not a mathematical concept, it is a physics/chemistry concept. If U is the total energy,p is the pressure and V is the volume, then the enthalpy H=U+pV.

Enthalpy is heat in a chemical reaction. There will be a gain or loss and that would be written as delta H. delta means change and H is enthalpy.
You should be aware that you never know the total amount of enthalpy in any system. You only get to know the change in H that you have released or absorbed.
