A pen(gel) leaked in my shirt pocket. It then dried and I took it to a laundry place hoping that it would go away. There it was washed, dried and ironed. The spot was still there when I got it back.

Not much luck after the stain was set in when ironed.
You need to attack it early with hair spray or any prewash products like oxiclean.
Do not use hot water and blot the spot instead of rubbing.

Use hairspray, it's worked for me before, even after it was dried and sat for days before being put in the laundry. ....

And the person that keeps telling people to use GOOP really needs to learn how to spell it! lol
