I mean, really. "Their is dis guy who likes me...". "Were do I go to meet gurls..." Why do he not lik me anymore...".
I know that sometimes you take shortcuts when typing on-line, but, come on people.

Apparently, English is still a required course but who knows what you need to know or what level of proficiency you need to reach before you graduate. I'm sure most of the people who talk and write like that take the easiest English classes in order to graduate.

I have noticed too that many people on message boards do not know how to spell basic words or use basic proper grammar. And I think many people emulate what they hear on the radio or on television. When they hear some rap guy talking slang, it just becomes part of their vocabulary. Rest assured, it will catch up with these people when they try to get a job. No one is going to hire someone, who writes and speaks like that, for more than minimum wage! Maybe not even for minimum wage!

Officially, English is still a course. However, what they typically teach is not much English. Many of these classes become therapy sessions, where students are encouraged to write about their problems and not worry about grammar or spelling. It's only the ideas that count. It is absurd.

Makes one wonder on many levels.

Generations ago there was far more poverty than there is even today...public schools were basically ill kept trash cans...and many students had to work all night and still get up and go back to school the next morning...and guess what? They could all spell and formulate sentences in proper English.

So it's a mystery to me.

It really bothers me when people type like that. Some things, like lol and such are okay to me, but it's just really annoying when people write like as lik (come on, it doesnt take that much energy to type the e). When I see people type like that, it just gives me an impression about this person. I just think he or she is somekind of stupid person who can't spell right. It takes longer to read as well

Attendance in English classes is required, but no one can force people to pay attention or participate -- or to remember what they may have learned.

I think English is now offered as an elective. ;-( Yes, it is frightening how many people abuse the English language and grammar.
